Criada pelo Decreto Nro 008, de 23 de abril de 1984, a Bandeira do Estado do Amapá representa uma simbologia que procura identificar, de maneira figurativa, o passado do povo amapaense, representado pela figura geométrica de 8a. classe do estilo Vauban (Sebastian Le Preste Vauban, engenheiro militar francês) que inspirou a construção da fortaleza de São José de Macapá, motivo e origem da evolução da cidade capital do Estado.
Escolhida por uma comissão designada pelo governador do então Território do Amapá (Decreto nro 4, de 30 de janeiro de 1984), a Bandeira possui formato retangular e é confeccionada a partir das cores azul, verde, amarelo e branco - constantes na Bandeira Nacional - e o negro. O campo azul simboliza a Justiça e o céu amapaense. O verde representa os 90% da área do Estado de floresta nativa, ainda preservada. Simboliza também a esperança, o futuro, o amor, a liberdade e a abundância, O amarelo simboliza a união e as riquezas do subsolo. O branco a pureza e a paz, a vontade do Estado do Amapá em viver com segurança e em comunhão com todos os que nele vivem, significando ainda que a discórdia não pode ter guanda entre o Poder Públicoea população. O negro simboliza o respeito permanente aos que tombaram no passado, em lutas ou não, e que em vida fizeram algo de bom para o engrandecimento desta região.
Created by the Decree No. 008, of April23, 1984, the Flag of the State of Amapá depicts symbolically the past of the people from Amapá, through the 8th class geometric figure, Vauban style (Sebastian Le Preste Vauban, French military engineer), that has inspired the construction of the Fort of San José of Macapá. reason and origin of the development of the State capital.
From a decision of a committee appointed by the Governor of the then Territory of Amapá (Decree No.4 of January 30, 1984) emerged the blue, green, yellow and white (the colors of the Brazil's own flag) and black oblong flag. The blue symbolizes the Justice and the sky from Amapá. The green represents the 90% of the State area covered by native and still preserved forest. It recalls also the hope, the future, the love, the freedom and the abundance. The yellow stands for the union and the richness of its subsoil. The white symbolizes purity and peace, the willingness of the State of Amapá in living with safety and in communion with all its inhabitants, meaning that the discord can not be sheltered among the government and the citizens. The black represents the permanent respect to those that in the past have fallen in struggles, or not necessarily, but who in life did something for the grandeur of this region.
