BOl JUNQUEIRA 

Raça originada da mistura das raças portuguesas vindas para o Brasil na época da colonizaçao, era encontrada, principalmente, na região norte de São Paulo e no sul de Minas Gerais. Sua pelagem varia do baio ao castanho e apresenta focinho róseo. Além de serem animais robustos e pesados, apresentam conformação córnea singular, muitas vezes encontrando-se chifres em cuja cavidade cabem de 5 a 12 litros de líquido. Esta peculiaridade, que despertava orgulho no detentor do boi com chifre mais desenvolvido, aliada a utilização destes chifres na producão de berrantes, instrumento usado na condução do gado, talvez tenha sido um dos motivos pelos quais essa raça não tenha desenvolvido o seu potencial de produção de carne que seria esperado em animais desse porte.

 

JUNQUEIRA OX

It came out of the breeding of Portuguese oxen that were brought to Brazil at the time of our colonization. It used to be mainly found in the northern area of the State of São Paulo and in the southern area of the State of Minas Gerais. Its coat varies from light yellowish to light brown and it presents a pinkish muzzle. Besides being robust and heavy animals, they present singular horn shape, at times reaching hollows of 5 to 12 liters. This characteristic, which is a source of pride for the owner of such oxen, along with the use of their horns in the production of a short of chasing horn used in cattle driving, may be some of the reasons why this breed has not developed its potential for meat production that would be expected in animals of that size.
