CENTENÁRIO DO TEATRO AMAZONAS - 1896 - 1996

Feliz da cidade que tem como marco um templo de cultura.

O Teatro Amazonas não é apenas o símbolo da cidade de Manaus, encravado no meio da Floresta Amazônica. Passou também, a marcar como um exemplo de heroísmo cultural, toda a região.Em 31 de dezembro de 1996, com as comemorações do Centenário do Teatro Amazonas, o mundo inteiro vai estar festejando a vitória do homem amazônico na luta em defesa da floresta e na vontade do caboclo de fazer valer a sua raça. Não são apenas as lendas de que Caruso ou Sarah Bernhardt aqui se apresentaram ou a realidade do passeio vocal de Luciano Pavarotti visitando o palco do Teatro, para uns felizes 50 visitantes, e fazendo de um teste vocal quase um espetáculo para os que estavam a sua volta.

O Teatro Amazonas é o espetáculo simples e de casa lotada, das toadas amazonenses às sapatilhas esplendorosas de Dame Margot Fonteyn.O arrojo dos donos da borracha e do engenheiro maranhense Eduardo Ribeiro, no final do século passado, transmitiram para os caboclos de hoje a luta renhida de fazer preservar a cultura desta terra, ora mantendo o viçoso verde da floresta e o nosso meio ambiente, bem como o cantar dos índios e dos pássaros, num palco que já viu passar óperas e operetas, discursos e teses, mocinhos e bandidos, e até os famosos fantasmas do Teatro.

Que a nossa cultura se mantenha viva como o centenário Teatro, no meio desta milenar floresta.

CENTENARY OF THE AMAZON THEATER - 1896/1996

The Amazon Theater is not only the symbol of the city of Manaus craved in the heart of the Amazonian jungle. Its symbolism has extended all over the region as an example of cultural heroism.

On December 31, 1996 with the commemorations of the Centenary of the Amazon Theater the whole world will be celebrating the victory of the Amazonian man in the struggle for the forest defense and the will of the "caboclo" in showing the strength of this race. The Theater is not only the legendary presentations of Caruso and Sarah Bernhardt, or the actual vocal promenade of Luciano Pavarotti when visiting the Theater’s stage for the joy of 50 visitors, and his vocal test, almost a full spectacle witnessed by those who were around himThe Amazon Theater is both the simple and the sold out show, the Amazonian songs and the splendorous ballet shoes of Dame Margot Fonteyn.

The darin rubber plantation owners and the courageous engineer from the State of Maranhão Eduardo Ribeiro - in the end of last century have transmitted to the "caboclos" of today the eagerness to fight to preserve the culture of this land: maintaining the bright green of the forest and of our environment, the singing of native and birds on a stage that has already seen operas and operettas, speeches and theses, good boys and bad boys and even the famous ghosts of the TheaterWe wish that our culture maintains itself alive as the Centenary of the Theater, in the middle of this thousand years forest.
