Fernando de Noronha is an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, around 220 miles (354 km) offshore from the Brazilian coast. Its area is 18.4 km², its population 2,051 (2000). The area is a special municipality (distrito estatal) of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. Its timezone is UTC−2h.
