Menotti Del Picchia, filho dos italianos Luís Del Picchia e CorEna Del Corso
Del Picchia, nasceu na cidade de São Paulo a 20 de março de 1892. Ainda
menino mudou-se para ltapira/ SP, onde fez o curso primário. O secundário foi
feito em Campinas/SP e Pouso Alegre/ MG. Nesta cidade, aos 16 anos, fundou e
dirigiu O Mandu, um pequeno jornal do ginásio local. Formou-se pela
Faculdade de Direito de São Paulo em 1913, ano em que publicou seu livro de
estréia. Em Itapira exerceu a advocacia e publicou o jornal 0 Grito.
Nesta mesma cidade escreveu e publicou o poema Juca Mulato, obra que lhe
deu notoriedade internacional. Em 1922, com Mário e Oswald de Andrade,
liderou o Movimento Modernista Brasileiro, sendo um dos promotores da Semana
de Arte Moderna, realizada no Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, em fevereiro
daquele ano. Fundou e dirigiu revistas ejornais em São Paulo. Autor de
dezenas de livros dos mais variados gêneros, pertenceu às Academias Paulista
e Brasileira de Letras. Foi eleito Intelectual do Ano, em 1968. Em 1982foi
proclamado Príncipe dos Poetas Brasileiros. Foi ainda pintor, escultor e,
como político, foi por três vezes Deputado Federal e duas Deputado Estadual,
sempre por São Paulo. Itapira deu o nome de Juca Mulato a um parque e o
nome do poeta a uma praça. Instalou, também, o memorial Casa de Menotti Del
Picchia. O poeta morreu em São Paulo a 23 de agosto de 1988, com 96 anos.

Menotti Del Picchia son of the Italian couple: Luís Del Picchia and Corina
Del Corso Del Picchia was born in São Paulo city on March 20, 1892. Still a
boy, he moved to Itapira city, São Paulo State, where he took his primary
education course. The secondary school was taken in Campinas city, São Paulo
State and in Pouso Alegre city, Minas Gerais State. In the latter, he founded
and directed O Mandu a modest newspaper of the local secondary school
when he was 16 years old. He graduated from the Law School Õf São Paulo in
1913 when he published his first book. In the city of Itapira he performed the
profession of lawyer and published the newspaper entitled O Grito. In the
same city he wrote and published the poem Juca Mulato which gave him
international recognition. In 1922 with Mário and Oswald de Andrade he
headed up the Brazilian Modernist Movement and was one of the promoters of the
Modern Art Week that was held in São Paulo Municipal Theatre in February that
year. He has founded and directed magazines
