Filho do estadista João Pinheiro da Silva, Israel, desde jovem, distinguiu-se pela ânsia do saber e invejável capacidade de trabalho. Realizou seus primeiros estudos na cidade de Caeté, sua terra natal. Fez o curso preparatório no Colégio Anchieta, em Nova Friburgo, Estado do Rio de Janeiro e, após ingressou na "Escola de Minas e Metalurgia de Ouro Preto". Formado, em 1919, em engenharia civil e de minas, recebeu como prêmio uma viagem à França, Alemanha e Inglaterra.

Durante sua exemplar vida pública, exerceu múltiplas e variadas funções, com muitos êxitos e grande respeitabilidade. Presidente da Câmara Municipal de Caeté, Diretor da "Companhia de Mineração Juca Vieira" e da "Usina de Tubos Centrifugados Barbará", Secretário da Agricultura, Viação e Obras Públicas e Secretário de Agricultura, Comércio Indústria e Trabalho de Minas Gerais; Presidente da Companha do Vale do Rio Doce; Deputado Federal com destaque na Presidência da Comissão de Orçamento e Finanças da Câmara dos Deputados; Presidente da "Companhia Urbanizadora da Nova Capital" (Novacap); Prefeito do Distrito Federal e Governador do Estado de Minas Gerais.
Foi sempre um batalhador infatigável. Nunca recuou, mesmo ante os mais difíceis obstáculos, vencendo-os com tenacidade e trabalho. Para tanto, armava-se de bravura excepcional, entusiasmo invejável, coragem e fé inabalável. Jamais esmorecia, não abdicava da luta, e nem duvidava do êxito, infundindo em seus auxiliares um elevado animo para a execução das missões.

Esse espírito empreendedor se revelou, de forma incomparável, durante a construção da Nova Capital do Brasil quando surgiu a expressão "espírito de Brasília", que Israel definiu como "tudo o que há de contrário ao derrotismo sistemático". Israel Pinheiro da Silva foi um vencedor. Ultrapassando os óbices que se Ihe antepunham, seguia firme, sem desanimo nem desesperança, até a vitória final.

Por tudo isto legou à geração vindoura exemplo de uma vida digna, honrada e produtiva.

CENTENARY OF BIRTH OF ISRAEL PINHEIRO DA SILVA

Remarkable achievements and teachings this is the synthesis of the life and works of Israel Pinheiro da Silva.

Son of the statesman, João Pinheiro da Silva, Israel since his youth has distinguished himself by the eagerness to learn and by his enviable working capacity. He started his first studies in Caeté, his birthplace. The preparatory course was made at the Anchieta College in Nova Friburgo, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Soon after he entered the School o Mines and Metallurgy of Ouro Preto. Graduated in 1919 in civil and mining engineering, he was awarded a travel to France, Germany and England.

During his exemplary public life he has occupied many and varied functions with success and great respectability as president of the Caeté Municipal Chamber; as director o the Mining Company Juca Vieira and of the Barbar; Centrifuged Tubes Company; as Secretary of Agriculture Transport and Public Works; as- Secretary of Agriculture Commerce Industry and Labor, in the state of Minas Gerais; as president of the Vale do Rio Doce Company Federal Representative as an outstanding President of the Budget Commission at the Chamber of Representatives; as President of the Urbanizing Company of the New Capita (Novacap); as Mayor of the Federal District and as Governo of the state of Minas Gerais.

He was an indefatigable fighter. He never retreated, even before the most difficult obstacles, defeating then with tenacity and hard work. For this he armed himself with exceptional bravery, enviable enthusiasm, courage and unshakable faith. He never gave up, he never abandoned the fight, he never doubted about the success, filling hi assistants with the enthusiasm with which he executed the, mission.

This entrepreneur spirit was revealed in incomparable way during the construction of the new capital of Brazil when came out the expression "Brasília spirit" than according to Israel was "everything opposed to the systematic defeatism".
Israel Pinheiro da Silva was a winner. Overcoming the obstacles that crossed his way, he went along strong never discouraged nor despaired until the final victory.

For all of this Israel left to the coming generation the example of a dignified, honored and productive life.
